    to begin

    after X11 app (XQuartz 2.3.6, xorg-server 1.4.On 2-apple56) real Mac (OS X 10.6.Opening 8), great terminal under X11 and incentivizing xhost + , then ssh -Y on my Ubuntu 10.VM 2004 (works with VMware Fusion). When I run gedit. (For bashrc example ) I get:

      (gedit: 9510): Gtk-WARNING **: show cannot be opened:

    But when I use ssh -Y on my Ubuntu 11.04 machine, gedit .bashrc works. echo Return $ display “localhost: 10.0”

    I tried to export DISPLAY = localhost: 10.0 while shutting down my VM, then I ran through gedit .bashrc but I get:

      (gedit: 9625): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to display on open: localhost: 10. May 0

    What are the configuration differences between two different Ubuntu machines that would probably explain why one works and the other doesn’t?

    Update: As Zoredache suggested in the comment below, I participated in sudo apt-get install xbase-clients but still had the exact problem.

    From xhost +: How to fix “Can’t open display” error when launching GUI on remote server:

    Answer. Some errors of opening the display can befix, usually by following the xhost procedure described in this article.

    Allow clients to connect via xhost +.

    Run the following command, which turns off monitoring, courtesy of – whatYou can allow clients to connect from any host.

      $ xhost +

    Access control is not working properly, clients can establish all connections from the host

    Activate X11 Forwarding

    When starting ssh, use all -X options to enable X11 forwarding.

    and linux cannot open display

      $ ssh  [email security]  -X

    Enable secure submission from X11 using the -Y option

      $ ssh [secure email address] -Y

    Opening GUI Applications on the Host

    After opening an SSH connection to some remote host as described above,Often they will open any GUI application that should open them without any problem.

    If you still get the “Unable to maximize screen” configuration error, DISPLAYvariable as shown below.

      $ export DISPLAY = 'IP: 0.0'

    Note. IP is the IP address of the corresponding local workstation on which you want to install the GUI.Candidacy.

    and linux cannot open display

    Check the sshd_config of the appropriate server (usually / etc / ssh / sshd_config ) and make sure the X11Forwarding setting is yes

    If string

      X11Forwarding X11Forwarding is not actually specified, the default on Debian machines is no which I can easily check.

    I also had this problem after logging into an Ubuntu virtual machine called by Mac OS X - “localhost” is not displayed on the screen for various reasons. So set the IP yourself as harrymc suggests DISPLAY = "127:

      export.0.0.1: 10.0 "

    Then the x11 programs will be fine. This doesn't sound like telling the operating system that localhost is also extremely important, 127.0.0.1, but, equivalently, it is at least effective.

    Question. When I try to run a GUI application on a remote server, I get the "Cannot open view:" error as shown below. How can I decideIs this a problem?

    As a demo, when I ran gedit on a remote generic server, I got the following message.

    (gedit: 3658): Gtk-WARNING **: event not opening:

    I get a similar message when I try to open a GUI resume. For example, if you run an oracle installation that is available on a remote server, you will also receive the "Cannot open view" error message.

    Answer. You are probably troubleshooting the "Cannot open display" error caused by running the xhost procedure mentioned in this article.

    1. Allow Clients To Shutdown From Any Host. Using Xhost +

    Typically, run the following command to disable the Get control, which you can use to instruct clients to connect virtually from a host. Xhost

    $ +Access control is disabled, clients will connect from any host

    Activate Forwarding 2.X11
